Reading Rockets will begin pre-season training this week and will be straight into action this Friday 30th August when they take on Team USA Select for their annual friendly game at the John Madejski Academy (7.30pm tip-off). Coach Keane will have a new-look roster this term with the Berkshire outfit completing five brand new signings last week with more announcements due in the next few days.
Rockets will have a healthy four weeks of pre-season training and will entertain fellow NBL Division One competitors Essex and Herts Leopards on Sunday 22nd September (5pm tip-off at Rivermead Leisure Complex) before tipping-off their season the following weekend when they travel to the Capital to take on Westminster Warriors on Saturday 28th September, 5.30pm tip-off at Moberley Sports Centre.
The Reading team will play their first competitive home game at Rivermead Complex on Sunday 13th October when they entertain the team that dumped them out of last season’s play-offs in Loughborough Riders. The Berkshire outfit will start November with a tricky trip to NBL Division One new-boys Liverpool before an away third round National Cup tie the following day.
Rockets will start the final month of 2019 with back to back home games against Derby Trailblazers and Bradford Dragons respectively before completing the year against rivals Hemel Storm on Saturday 21st December at Sportspace, 7pm tip-off.
The new year begins with a couple of home games at Rivermead Leisure Complex as Rockets entertain Westminster Warriors on Sunday 5th January, before entertaining Thames Valley Cavaliers the following weekend on Sunday 12th January, both games tipping-off at 5pm.
The Berkshire outfit will complete their regular season with five out of the last seven games at home for Coach Keane’s side with Worthing Thunder and Hemel Storm the last visitors to Reading on Sunday 15th March and Sunday 22nd March respectively.
Rockets Chairman Gary Johnson is understandably looking forward to the new season and can’t wait to see his new-look team in action. Johnson said,
“Whenever the fixture list arrives, the excitement begins to stir for another season in the top flight of English basketball for Rockets Men. Our history in the four annual competitions, reduced to three this season due to no National Trophy, is one of the very best of any club and this year and with a much changed squad, I’m looking forward to the opening friendly game start on Sunday 22nd Sept at Rivermead against old rivals Essex and Herts Leopards establishing themselves back Division One and with a new partnership with Hertfordshire College.”
