Reading Rockets Head Coach Departs

It’s with sad news we have to say goodbye to Dan Pearson after only one year with the Mens D1 Team, while both parties were expecting a longer tenure with the club, Dan has been given the opportunity to Coach in Germany that he cannot refuse and we wish him all the very best.

This was Dan’s first Pro Head Coaching role and we are happy to have been able to give him the opportunity to kick start his career.

Last season under Dan’s leadership Reading were only a few wins away from finishing in the top three, and all this in a COVID season, he also played an instrumental role within the JMA Academy and worked closely with the coaching staff as a mentor.

Matt Johnson, Director of Basketball at Reading Rockets said, “It’s with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Coach Dan. Dans intensity and passion for detail has been a calling card for him and that was also part of the attraction from his new team when they offered him such a high position after only one season away from Canada and University basketball.  It became clear to myself and Dan quite quickly that the offer coming in from Europe was something that he simply couldn’t turn down in his career. We thank Dan for all of his energy, intention and enthusiasm for Coaching as a trade and the way he gave to our club too.”

Dan had a few words to share as he gets ready to move onto the next step in his career. “Although my time with the Rockets was a short lived stint, I can not begin to express the amount of care, support, and acceptance I received throughout my year in Reading. From the Johnson family, to our players, to the fans throughout the community, I felt at home and very much a part of the expansive Rockets family that has been built over 25 years. As I explore other coaching paths in the coming years, Reading will always be a special place to me for its incredible heart that is so very vibrant on every level. Thank you to all who made my experience so special and will continue to make Reading and the Rockets organization a first class location.”

We all wish Dan the very best for his future, and we’re sure it will be bright. Reading Rockets will be announcing a new Head Coach and Roster later in the summer, watch this space.
