New International Club Partner: L’Alqueria Del Basket

The Reading Rockets are thrilled to announce a partnership with L’Alqueria del Basket ahead of the 2021/22 season.

L’Alqueria was founded in 2017 as a training and development program associated with the hugely successful Valencia Basket basketball team. It has quickly blossomed into one of the premier basketball training programs in the world, generating many brilliant young players who have featured for Spain’s international teams in the past four years. The quality of the training and facilities reflects the outstanding reputation of the broader Valencia Basket organization, which have competed at the highest level in Europe for many years and have firmly cemented itself as a powerhouse of Spanish basketball.

L’Alqueria’s youth teams have enjoyed great success since their founding, with a number of teams for boys and girls of all ages that each have the opportunity for regular tournament play, often hosted at L’Alqueria’s fantastic facilities which boast nine indoor and four outdoor courts. They also offer training for coaches and conduct broader basketball research through the recently founded L’Alqueria Lab, which aims to promote basketball in Spain while also refining training practices and player performance. This partnership will see players and coaches from the Rockets utilize L’Alqueria’s brilliant resources for training camps and management consultation, and will give squads from Reading’s full basketball program the opportunity to participate in L’Alqueria’s regular tournaments.

The investment Valencia Basket and L’Alqueria have made in their youth players have been a resounding success, offering young players the opportunity to fulfil their potential while supported by great training and resources. We look forward to growing and learning alongside L’Alqueria as we announce this partnership, and cannot wait to work closely with them in the future.

Joan Portero Luque, head coach of the D1 women’s team at the Reading Rockets, is leading the partnership from the Rockets side of the agreement and he couldn’t be happier. He said:

“I’m so happy about this partnership, not just for Reading Rockets but for developing basketball in the UK as a whole. We are starting in Reading, but we want to give the facilities for everyone to access to different coach clinics, tournaments, pre-season stages and more.

Valencia is a Euroleague team, a top 4 in Spain, and they have one of the best academies in Europe (and probably in America too)! We can’t wait to keep learning from them. They are also going to have the opportunity to see how much basketball is growing in England, and learning about our academies. I’m completely sure this partnership is going to make a huge impact for both clubs.”
