After 6 years of being at Reading Rockets, we say a very grateful goodbye to Coach Charlie Haynes.
Charlie began with us as a boys academy coach, whilst coaching a small group of under 12 girls in the club and working in the community programme.
Soon after he moved on to work more with the girls programme and helped to grow it to what it is today with premier teams at every age group.
Charlie worked on this project whilst also developing an exciting youth academy project at the John Madejski Academy.
This is now the flourishing and successful Hartland High School junior programme that we have today for students ranging from 11 to 16 years old. With over 20 Rockets players training every day in the school and finding their way into the 6th form programme ranked now in the top 8 in the country.
For the past couple of years, Charlie has lead the Hartland High School WEABL squad and assisted the EABL team. He did this whilst also having club success by leading the Under 18 Premier Women to the National Quarter Finals, leading the Under 16 Premier Girls to the National Quarter Finals, and leading the Under 18 Premier Men to the National Cup Semi Finals.
However above all else, Charlie has become a well-loved member of the Rockets Community. His work-ethic, friendliness, competitiveness and willingness to do what is best for those around him has made him someone that we will all miss. We are all very grateful for his impact over the past several years.
