Reading Rockets basketball team has acquired the services of two influential Reading-based businessmen, who have pledged their commitment to the future growth of the club.<\/p>\n

Technology specialist David McKenzie and leading sport authority Nick Humby join the Rockets\u2019 existing management structure at a time when the popular basketball club is looking to take its activities to the very highest level.<\/p>\n

\u201cRockets has always been a people-first club,\u201d commented Reading Rockets Chairman, Gary Johnson.<\/strong>\u00a0[su_quote]We have always wanted to work with the right people at the right time to grow, to ensure we have solid foundation upon which to build. Sport has its ups and downs, like anything in life, but the most important thing is for us to have people in charge that act with morality and correct intentions. \"\"David McKenzie<\/strong> is an Account Director with Oracle with an extensive ten-year background in the technology industry. David started work at the age of 16, after being selected via a Scottish government backed scheme to find the country\u2019s new business leaders. Entitled \u2018The Recruit\u2019, the initiative was based on the popular format of \u2018The Apprentice\u2019. A massive sports fan with a wealth of experience working with large sporting brands, David now wants to extend that knowledge locally, by helping Reading Rockets reach the BBL.<\/p>\n

I was fortunate to attend the Olympic Games in 2012, and saw first-hand the Commonwealth Games legacy for Glasgow. Sporting diversity is the lifeblood of many communities. It has a unique ability to bring people together, tackling both social and health problems. Rockets have been an institution in Reading for the past 20 years. As a relative newcomer to Reading, while making my home in the town, I knew Reading has the potential for a wider range of sporting success. Nick Humby<\/strong> has seen most things in sport right up to the highest peaks. Through Nick\u2019s time as Chairman of British\u00a0basketball, and his time at some of the country\u2019s most prestigious sporting institutions (Manchester United, Football Association, Lawn Tennis Association, to name just a few), he brings to Reading Rockets a vast array of knowledge and experience.
