Overview

The clubs Mini Basketball programme is specifically designed for young players between the age of 4-10. Each session is aimed at developing each and every child on their physical development as well as their basketball knowledge and skills.

Mini Basketball prepares children for a sporting lifestyle as part of their overall education and as an introduction to the sport of basketball. By modifying the basketball rules to suite the child we cater for the individual at an appropriate level for their physical ability, mental development and social maturity.

The mini basket coaches will deliver fun, energised sessions for the children whilst using a variety of games to teach them the game of basketball whilst also developing key multi skills.

The young players will learn in a fun environment whilst also learning respect and fair play whilst making some cool new basketball friends!

Overview
These sessions are a great way to be involved with basketball outside of school, but not have that big commitment of joining a club. They are based in Leisure Centres, secondary schools, colleges and universities, but are for everyone who wants to have a go. Sessions have an open door policy so it doesn’t matter if you’re not part of the club, everyone is welcome to attend.

The idea of a satellite club is to be fun and informal and it’s all about getting as many students in one area as possible to BE involved. Coaches from the club make sessions as relaxed as possible whilst ensuring your personal and playing skills are developing too.

Between 1-1.5 hours, after school or at the weekends and run throughout the academic year.

Overview

The club runs a weekly social basketball session aimed at women who are both beginners to the sport and those who may be looking at getting back into the sport.

The club works closely with the This Girl can campaign and so understands the importance of providing women with opportunities to exercise in a fun environment whilst understanding the potential barriers that get in the way.

The sessions are run weekly as a pay as you go programme as the club appreciates how things can get in the way of attending so allows women to attend when they can and are welcomed back even if they are away from the session for a while.

Overview

Reading Rockets Hoop It Up Programme was launched by the club in September 2012 to provide young children with a sports programme which also helped them to learn lessons on how to have a happy and healthier lifestyle. The club is aware of the ongoing battle with childhood obesity in the Country and how important it is that children find ways to stay active through sport.

The programmes provides schools with anything from 6-30 week programmes and works closely with them to provide a programme which suits their school community and aims. Each programme has been specifically designed for these age groups in which suitable adaptations have been made to cater for each one.

The programme has detailed lesson plans for the coaches to ensure that there is consistency with the programme and also so teachers are able to get an idea of how the group are progressing and whether they are on course for their age group in regards to their physical literacy.

As well as ensuring the children are progressing In their physical skills each week a healthy lifestyle topic is focussed on and then integrated into the session through a variety of games, quizzes and short discussion. Delivering the messages within the session gives the children a direct link between the lifestyle message, exercising and how they work hand in hand.

playerpathway

Rockets are now able to provide a player pathway not only for school children looking to progress in the sport but also for those who are looking for an educational setting where they can access both an elite basketball programme while they study and also for those looking for a future career in the sport.
